¡Bienvenidos! Welcome

October 2nd, 2009

Our text book series is titled Navegando.  It includes textbooks entitled Navegando 1, 2 and 3, workbooks and listening activities.  It focuses on vocabulary, grammar, and culture in Spanish speaking countries.

Spanish I focuses on basic vocabulary and conversation. We use the Word Wall, memorization games, songs, and many other techniques in order to memorize the basic foundation.  We introduce the cultures in Spanish speaking countries.

Spanish II gets a little bit more involved with grammar and writing/reading Spanish.  We build upon the basic foundation while becoming more fluent.  We also have e-pals in Guatemala which improves our communication skills writing and speaking on Skype and we learn about the culture.

Spanish III  is more technical while we become more fluent in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish.  There are more oral presentations and conversing with Guatemala.  Also, Spanish III creates a newscast which is filmed and saved for posterity!  Spanish culture is expanded upon more in depth.

Spanish IV  Spanish IV involves some fun activities such as teaching Spanish once a week to 2nd grade.  We also participate in the Foreign Language Fair.  We converse daily with each other and with Guatemala via e-mail and Skype. As always, we investigate more Spanish culture.

English 12  This class is for all seniors.  We read Lord of the Flies, The Lottery, Beowulf and several old British Literature authors in the text titled Elements of Literature.  We write term papers, I-search papers, Voices of Democracy and journaling.

7th grade Reading/Spanish This is a combination class which meets five days a week. We will focus two days a week on cultural Spanish, two days a week on Reading, and one study hall/AR day.  Reading will utilize the 7th grade version of Elements of Literature.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our junior high students to be exposed to other cultures, and also to increase their reading skills which are skills needed for success in all classes.

8th grade Reading/Spanish  This is a continuation of the 7th grade combination class which meets five days a week. We will focus two days a week on cultural Spanish, two days a week on Reading, and one study hall/AR day.  Reading will utilize the 8th grade version of Elements of Literature.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our junior high students to be exposed to other cultures, and also to increase their reading skills which are skills needed for success in all classes.
